The Storks of Böbs

The Storks of Böbs
A Very Fine Pair

A days fishing and cooking the catch

Wednesday-Thursday

We left Bradshaw Wednesday morning and traveled across country to Filey, Roy has a smashing holiday appartment there, Barbara and he have had a it a few years and all of the family visit it every now and again. They had very kindly allowed us to stay for a few days as I was planning doing a bit of fishing from Bridlington. It is a short walk down to the front and Coble Landing and the smashing gardens along the front. Thank goodness it hasn't turned kitchy like many of the seaside pleasure beaches.

We got settled in and as we had done a shop at Saisbury's (there is a brand new one just beside the Library). I once again joined a Library, now my third I find them fantastic and everyone so helpful. I went online and done my e-mails and had a look what zthe weather was going to be like the next day. wWhen i got back I phoned boat owner who was to take me out the next day, he informed me that he wasn't going out the next day (lack of customers) but had booked me on a boat that was going out, what a kind chap!

We had a look around the shops and had a nice waly getting back for tea and a bit of tele! As linda was going to Scarebourough whilr I was out fishing  (well each to their own) and I was leaving at 07:00 it was an early night.

We where in the car park well before time and  was just getting my stuff out of the car when a chap asked if I was the one that had booked with Frank, on replying yes he told me he was the one taking me out that day.

That was great he told me to go to the groyne and the boat would pick me up.

We all settled down and the bate was cut and prepared as we left the harbour and almost immediatly started fishing for Mackeral, we had  some success, between three of us we caught about 15, me catching 3.

We then set off and with a change of rig fished for dabs, here again we all had success and once again I caught 3, we next moved off lambourer Head and started fishing for Whiting all good thing come in 3 so I again had 3 nice ones. I also caught a weaver, you don't fool with those so it was cut free, dead free!

We returned back to harbour after a nice 6 hours fishing, nice company , a retired school teacher and his son, the boat owner and his son acting as the deckhand.

I was aiming to make a fish pie with the catch so needed a bit of smoked haddock fillets, these I bought straight from the harbour shop (along with some prawns, mussels and welks, the latter not for the pie but went straigh into my tummy).

On the way back we popped into Saisbury's and got some potatoes and frozen peas.

Getting home I fileted the fish and made the pie, I must say it is nice knowing that it is made from the freshest of products, your own caught fish.

And very tasty it was as well, we had the rest when we got back from York the next day.
