The Storks of Böbs

The Storks of Böbs
A Very Fine Pair

Useful cooking knowledge, °F to °C and such other useless information

I decided to do this page because of the number of times it is asked on websites, I realise that it shouldn’t as in most countries the metric system is in place and even those that hang on to bits of old Imperial systems, it is taught in schools (and has been since the 1960s). I was at the difficult period of transformation, being in Marine Engineering and changing from BTUs, WSTs, PSI, HPs , heat engines, Drafting and R&D was a mine field, don’t forget this was before the days of computers (well they had just become part of the machine tool technology in the form of CNC and the pay office with the punch card system). It was not until I started working for MAN that I was really confronted with mass IT in the form of medium speed diesel engine controllers (DDC relays).

But I shall start real slow and if there are any (and there always are) wiz kids out there, bear with the older amongst us that have never had a need to know that a lb is 452g and doesn’t even know that g is short for gramme.

I will start real slow with temperature, I will only deal with Centigrade or as it is now called Celsius and Fahrenheit

The formula for converting Fahrenheit to Celsius is :

°C = °F -32 x5/9

Worked example:

°C = 32-32 = 0

0 x5 = 0

0 /9 =0 =0 freezing point in Celsius

The formula for converting Celsius to Fahrenheit is:

°F = C x 9/5 + 32

Worked example:

°F = 100 x9 = 900

900/5 = 180

180 + 32 = 212 boiling point in Fahrenheit
